Why are my PayPal PLUS payments being declined?

Your payment can be declined for any of these reasons:

  • Bank or card decline
  • Internal security model decline
  • Cash advance payment attempt

Bank or card decline
The card-issuing bank hasn’t approved the transaction. Have the customer contact their bank to determine why and/or direct the buyer to use an alternate funding source.

Internal security model decline
If a buyer attempts to transact using a credit/debit card or a bank that was previously registered to a PayPal account, our risk analysis may decline the transaction.

Cash advance payment attempt
You can’t pay yourself, even if the transaction is to test your live integration. Should we recognize that you are attempting to pay yourself, we decline the transaction as it violates your card-issuer user agreement for cash advancing.
