In 1911, the Robert C. Spencer-designed Rock Island home for Susanne Denkmann was completed. The Prairie style home and garage/stable crown a 10-acre hilltop, surrounded by grounds designed by Jens Jensen, a noted Prairie style landscaper. Susanne Denkmann and John Hauberg lived in the home until their deaths. In 1956, the children of John and Susanne donated the home and grounds to the City of Rock Island for use as a Civic Center. Friends of Hauberg have now assumed the role of day to day management.
