Help support our junior climbers
To meet new challenges, we've set up this campaign with a goal of £20,000.
With your help, British Mountaineering Council can reach this goal and continue the work we've set out to do.
GB CLIMBING
The BMC is the National Governing Body and the home of competition climbing in the UK. The GB Climbing department manages the GB Climbing teams, talent and performance pathways, national and international competition events in the UK, and proudly promotes the future of our sport.
In the summer of 2021 in Tokyo, climbing became an Olympic sport for the first time. Climbers competed in the combined event of three disciplines: Lead, Boulder and Speed climbing. Looking ahead to Paris 2024, and beyond, speed climbing will now be a medal event of its own, separated from a combined Lead and Boulder. Inclusion as an Olympic Sport has catalysed funding into the GB National Team through the National Governing Body.
Our performance activities and national team (competition climbing) are funded mainly through UK Sport and Sport England (Talent) with a small contribution from BMC core funding. The funding from these bodies follows the Olympic four year cycles, the current ‘Paris 24 Cycle’ runs from April 21 to March 25.
2024 FUNDING
As we near the end of the current funding cycle the costs of setting up and developing the performance infrastructure during the first years of the cycle have put pressure on the remaining 12 months of GB Climbing operations. Wider organisation challenges and external pressures mean there is no additional funding available from the BMC Core to maintain the previous level of GB Climbing team activities. The remaining budget has had to be prioritised around a reduced Senior Team schedule and much reduced Youth Team schedule.
The following GB Climbing Youth Team calendar of events will be impacted and additional funding is sort in order to maintain the support of coaching team and facilitate a full contingent of support for our climbers.
